Comics this week were great.
DC 52 – WEEK 46 – DAMN! I really liked this issue and I cannot figure out why, did Giffen write this issue…cause it feels a lot like Giffens’ humor sometimes. Black Adam comes tearing ass and taking names to the island retreat of all those evil scientists….it has a name but I think most of us have LONG forgotten it. Throughout the whole issue you just keep thinking…OH THEY ARE GONNA HAVE THE CRAP KICKED OUT OF THEM and yet….you still kinda root for them….I find it utterly confusing….I want to see some Black Adam vengeance but….I want the evil scientists to win…..must decide…too hard. T.O Morrows…man….I never thought I’d like a villian that much.
The rest of this issue is forgettable though, some stuff about Luthor…snore….some stuff about the JSA…snore.
X-Factor #17 – Depressing and dark….good story and art per usual but…yeah, I think that sums up this issue pretty well.
The Brave & The Bold #2 – It’s Waid….yeah me likey, though, and maybe I am the only one here, was anybody slightly disturbed by the whole Hal inner monologue of “She’s only 17″…”17″, type stuff, I know it was suppose to come off as funny but, it more came off as weirdly creepy. Other then forementioned gripe, I am really liking the formula of this book as it comes into its’ second issue, excited to see more. The art was alright, though me heck, I’d like Tony Daniels to do everything so maybe I ask for too much.
Cable & Deadpool #38 – You know…I was just about to drop this book. Lately the writing on C&D has been well…..underwhelming and depressing. When I pick up C&D I wanna laugh…maybe I am a simple reader…but, that’s what I want. This issue the laughter has come back…with a VEGEANCE…..in a world where Deadpool is tiny and there is no hope there IS….ok…ok..I’ll stop with the cliche sayings. Art is on par with other issues and like I said Nicieza’s writing is back in full force to it’s former glory….oh and they made a Yoda reference in the book….how can I not give a thumbs-up to this issue…HONESTLY! No Cable in this issue though…so if your reading it just for that character….yeah…..your SOL.
The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #10 – It’s ZOOM WOOO, ok nuff of that. I tolerated this issue….that’s the best way I know how to put it, the story was alright but, the dialogue was ANNOYING. Case in point:
What in the world is up with that second bubble…..it’s an aside to himself…spoken ALOUD. You see Captain Cold’s expression there….yeah that his WHAT THE F*&# face, cause even he doesn’t see the reasoning behind that second bubble. If this happened once, I could be ok with it but, sadly, it does not. These small sequiturs ruin the overall flow of the story and I hope the writer realizes this….I’ll stick with the Flash…but Guggenheim your on notice buddy.
Runaways Saga #1 – Meh, good as primer if you’ve never read Runaways, basically this recaps the whole series up to the recent arc by Vaughan that just wrapped….nothing really new. I suggest this to those that are thinking of trying out Runaways in place of smacking down around 40 bucks for the two hardcovers (though they are REALLY REALLY GOOD and WORTH IT!)
The Walking Dead #36 – Wait…didn’t the last issue like…just come out….eh oh well..more zombie goodness for us all. Kirkman yet again does a great job, this issue being just as disturbing as the past. You finally have an upbeat moment with a nice little marriage proposal being made between two of Ricks’ crew which, can I just say THANK YOU. Robert man, I understand it’s a horror comic of sorts and it has to be dark at times but, ease up a little more…we all need a breather.
now….back to reading the rest of my stack.
