Holiday Shuffle

Before you ask, no….I am not taking the holidays off from comic blogging….could I? Yes.

Bottom line, I have more time now then ever before so, what the heck. I am gonna update this sucker everyday till 2008…after that I’ll likely go back to sporadic weekly posts BUT, until then, buckle your seat beats!

Cable & Deadpool #48 – Wade brings back T-Ray. There are a couple of nice moments, Iron-Man Deadpool being one of the best:

Deadpool AS Iron Man

It’s a nice issue but, I think with these last couple, the humor has been waning. Part of me thinks Marvel editors are paying more close attention to Fabian as he finishes out this series…you know…so he doesn’t get…TOO wild at the end….though the Bob the Blogger stuff seems to be somehow getting through, heh.

WWH: WARBOUND – More of those crazy Warbound aliens we love to read about. Pak writes this spinoff from World War Hulk well. How much stuff is Pak writing right now anyway? Seriously the guy is writing almost as much as Warren Ellis and Paul Dini combined. ANYWAY, this first issue of Warbound was good. Kirk, Staples, Sandoval all do great art within this title. The basic premise of this series seems to be the Warbound are on the run from SHIELD and along the way get mixed up in all the CRAZY WWH spinoffs. Backstory is given on one of the Warbound and I get the feeling every issue your gonna have more delved into with each of these characters’ past…only makes sense…only five issues to this series…and technically there are actually FIVE Warbound. In short this first issue was good but, is not meant for those unfamilar with Planet Hulk and World War Hulk,

Countdown to Final Crisis #19 – This series….it keeps having up issues and down issues I tell you. Quick recap for this one, Pied Piper is still in the desert running from the Suicide Squad (Tricksters’ dead body STILL attached), Holly & Harley side-story is delved back into…they’ve found Hippolyta “Queen of the Amazons” and you can tell…some throwdown between all of them and Granny Goodness is coming, Jimmy Olsen saves Forager…can you say Human Boom Tube….there’s a joke there but, I am not gonna take it.

Jimmy Olsen: Human Boom Tube

Olsen gets a kiss from Forager after all is said and done, we get some shadowy figure showing up on Apokolips oh…and the COTB are STILL looking for Ray Palmer. DC when the dead horse is mush…I think you can stop beating on it…ok? This issue overall was good, I liked the fact that Jimmy Olsen has gained all of these powers…I mean come on…he’s a human mother box…how cool is THAT. The art is alright, neither awful nor awe-inspiring. Honestly….I just want this series to end already…one weekly title was enough, Countdown is just burning me out.

Terror Inc. #4 – One of the best comics out there your NOT reading. Think DC’s Mr Bones, only much MUCH cooler. Skeleton-like hero is a detective for hire that has gotten mixed up in a terrorist plot tied into him being well….a skeleton/walking corpse for hundreds of years. David Lapham writes a story mixed with intrigue and dark humor, complimented all the more by Zircher’s kick ass art. READ IT!

She-Hulk #24 - Jennifer Walters collects her money from a bounty, and we get a little more of a backstory on Jazinda, her shape-changing Skrull friend. It’s a good issue, light-hearted at times. Peter David has kept me interested after what is it? three issues now…it’s safe on my list….just so long as he doesn’t screw with the character of Pug or Awesome Andy.

Countdown Presents: The Search for Ray Palmer: Superwoman & Batwoman: All the men superheroes are woman and vice-versa….seeing Ollie in a Black Canary costume….yeah…that was a little unsettling. Confused…..I am..I can’t tell if this was mocking general comic “roles” or what…needless to say my feelings on this title can best be summed up from my first thought after finishing this issue: Wha? Huh?

Batman & the Outsiders #3 - Geoforce is joining the Outsiders and….yeah ok…I guess that’s pretty much the gist of this issue…oh Batgirl was walking around naked….yeah…I didn’t really get the point of that scene…other then to establish that Batgirl is “weird”…..This issue just seemed…off….I think Dixon is still trying to work out the original story that was established.

Birds of Prey #112 - The whole team makes a mistake resulting in untold deaths…it happens in Metropolis so of course Superman is none to happy about the whole affair. The story overall is ok…I miss Gail Simone…still not digging Nicola Scott very much…she’s not horrible just…I don’t know..her face for Huntress looks almost exactly like her face for Misfit…just add a couple of extra freckles.

Misfit

Huntress

Eh, maybe I am being overly critical.

JLA #16 - Skip it…seriously…all you need to know is after all is said and done, the “Tangent” Flash has traveled into the JLA’s dimension. Love Benitez’s art but…yeah…this issue seems like filler.

Batman: Detective Comics #839 – Final issue in the Ressurection of Ra’s Al Ghul. Basically you have a huge freaking fight between the League of Assasins/Ra’s Al Ghul and everybody else. Ra’s takes the body of the White Ghost…who apparently is his son…and just as Ra’s and Batman are about to have this epic battle…as the narration leads one to believe someone is gonna die….the monks bring down some fury and everybody gets the heck out of dodge…..yeah…it was kinda lame…lol. Liked Ryan Benjamin & Don Kramers’ work..reminds me of Tony Daniels work in those first three pages.

Catwoman #74 – Selina starts embracing her villanious side a little, hanging the Calculator off a building to get some info on her new enemy/competition, “The Thief”. Just as Selina is about to get the drop on this foe…the Suicide Squad kidnaps her to take her to Salvation aka Super-Villain World…..yeah…..what the hell? I guess they are really trying to push this Salvation Run series…though it seems a tad ridiculous..I mean…Salvation Run on it’s own…is actually good….grr…issue was alright but I think Pfeifer’s story took a back seat to DC editorial on this one…I could be wrong though…till issue 75!.

The Incredible Herc #112 - Amadeus Cho & Herc get captured by SHIELD then escape. Alright issue…Cho is starting to get on my nerves a smidge…the phrase “spoiled brat” comes to mind…the funny thing…I actually liked Cho in the beginning.

Countdown Arena #3 - The heroes try to figure out how to defeat Monarch….assembling all the other Captain Atoms across dimensions….pretty good start. I like this series, it’s corny at times but…I like it. Art by McDaniel is meh to me…I am just not a fan of it.
